Saturday 8th June

On Saturday 8th June we’re having a club walk!

Absolutely everyone is invited….. junior and senior players, parents, former players, friends, family….EVERYONE!

Some might not think the BRODS BIG WALK is particularly “BIG” but that’s because we want it to be as inclusive as possible.

The full circuit is 5 miles and the shorter route is 3 miles.

It won’t cost you anything to join in but for some of our younger participants it will be a sponsored walk so please support them where you can

THE 5-MILER
The clubhouse will be open at 10.15am and we’ll be departing at 10.45am heading down Denholmegate Road and then right at the Grammar School, down Kirk Lane.
We’ll drop into the valley, past the Travellers Inn and the site of the old Hipperholme Railway Station and pick up the old packhorse route (the Magna Via) which will take us up the climb to Southowram.
We’ll pit stop at the Cock n Bottle pub in Bank Top before heading on to Beacon Hill which looks over Halifax town centre. From there we’ll drop down the paths in to Shibden Park.
The home stretch will see us take the path running up the side of Jum Hole Beck valley, beneath the trees of Woodhead before appearing at the top of our playing fields and heading in to the clubhouse in time for the Premiership Final, live from Twickenham, that kicks off at 3.

THE 3-MILER
This is the same route as above but finishes in Shibden Park.
Some of our younger walkers may have had enough by the time they get to the park so this seems like a good place to finish, particularly as they can then enjoy what the park has to offer.

RETRACING THE STEPS OF OUR FOREFATHERS
The route we’ll be taking to the pub in Bank Top is the same walk some of the Brods players took to play in the club’s very first match.
Our first match, back in September 1930, was away at Old Rishworthians. Back then, Rishies were playing in Southowram and some of our players, with kitbags thrown over their shoulders, walked from Hipperholme to the Cock n Bottle where they got changed ready for kick off.

TIMINGS FOR THE DAY:
10.45am Leave the clubhouse
11.45am-12.15 Arrive at the Cock n Bottle
12.30-1pm Leave the Cock n Bottle
1pm-2pm Arrive at Shibden Park
2pm Clubhouse open
3pm Premiership Final shown on the big screen
