Sad news

Sad news I’m afraid my brother, Peter Turner passed away yesterday morning. As many of you may know he had been battling with ill health for many years however following several days in hospital recently he died at home with Liz at his side. Peter was 73 years old.
I’m proud to say that Peter was quite simply my hero and I watched him from the touchline as he was a talented sportsman. He started playing rugby for the Brods after leaving school and represented the first XV in his pomp as a ball playing, goal kicking No 8 with a legendary side step to break many a defensive line. My happiest memories are from playing along side him for the second team, I think it was 1974ish and we enjoyed some great times together with many great team mates, a pretty good side which didn’t lose many games as I recall. Great times. After knee injuries he retired from playing but continued as a staunch supporter until his health would not allow it.
Peter enjoyed all sports being a very good cricketer representing Lightcliffe under 18s back in the 60s. They won numerous trophies under his captaincy before he moved up to the senior sides where he was a more than useful wicketkeeper batsman leading the second X1 to the Priestley Shield final again under his captaincy. He was one of those guys who would excel at any sport and was respected and loved by all his team mates. We will all remember him as a great friend, colleague and all round top bloke. He was loyal, caring and great company. Very talented at anything to which he turned his hand he was also highly respected by his workmates at Marshall construction before his early retirement.
Above all Peter was a great family man, a loving and caring husband to Liz, loving dad to Emily and Dom and of course a doting grandad to Chloe, Suzy, Lilly Jade and Rory. He will be missed by us all.
RIP Peter
