Bruce's report

It was like starting a new season for the Woodhead boys with many of the players not having played in nearly four weeks however Brods maintained their unbeaten run and a result which gave them a maximum 5 league points from an encounter against a side who were quite capable of providing a dangerous banana skin at this stage of the season .

Brods opened with great energy and purpose taking the game to their visitors and monopolising possession down the slope .

Ca,meron Wrpoot was iunlucky tro have his try disallowed following good build up on the left flank however he was adjudged controversially to have put fis foot in touch and the try was disallowed .

Brods maintained the pressure and after 15 minutes broke the Selby defence . Brods support play and interpassing was proving difficult for the visitors to defend and following an excellent sequence involving the Georgiou bothers down the attack was halted five metres short of the line . The momentum however was with Brods and Jimmy Hodkinson arrived at the base of the ruck to pick up and to continue the attack with his dart to the line. after 15play .

The conversion was missed however Brods pace was too much for the visitors and Phil Town found acres of space on the right flank to run in the second try .

Again the conversion was missed however the Brods supporters were enjoying the performance with strong running and excellent support work . The front row of Vento , Dawson and Bennie Pritchett were carrying well repeatedly crossing the advantage line and Brods were dominating the line out with Jennings in particular not only securing his own ball but repeatedly stealing from the Selby throws .

Joe Kafatolu was industrious throughout and Dom Georgiou was a constant threat down the left flank and having gained a good position deep inside the Selby rewd zone a dominant ruck from Brods provided ball for Jimmy Hodkinson who again saw his chance and broke blind down the right to scamper over and score in the corner .

15-0 after 30 minutes of dominant rugby by the home side . Brods couldn’t possibly maintain the momentum generated in the first 30 minutes and Selby finally got a toe hold in the Brods 22 to test the home sides defence .The Hipperholme boys were up to the task in defence and with some excellent clearances by Chris Georgiou relieving the pressure Brods progressed to half time without conceding .

The Woodhead boys started the second half with more strong forward play and Selby couldn’t cope with the strength of the Brods drive .When a lineout was won on the Selby 22 the Brods forwards were organised and their drive to the Selby line was too strong for the defenders .Danny Vento was the man in possession and a fourth try was secured together with a bonus point .

Selby stuck to their task and were rewarded with a consolation try 15 minutes into the second half when they finally stretched the home defence and scored wide on the left .

Selby continued to compete as the game moved to the final whistle . Brods appeared to be content with the victory and a bonus point secured whick keeps them very much in the mix at the top of the league with a game in hand .

The second team were disappointed to be let down by Ilkley twos who advised them late in the day that they were unable to raise a team to travel to Woodhead .

In contrast Selby threes turned up in strength and enjoyed a good game against Brods Beavers stealing a victory in the closing minutes
