The momentum towards the new season continues to build as we look forward to our opening pre season friendly against Morley at Scatchard Lane.

Last season Morley finished 12th in a league of 15 clubs, which resulted in them been relegated to NE1. Brods could have been entertaining Wilmslow this weekend however with over 30 players away with coach Neil Sheard on his stag weekend the Hipperholme club decided that they would delay their opening warm up fixture to the Morley game.

We continue to try and recruit and at the moment we are in talks with several former players who we are looking at bring back to Woodhead. We are also talking with an overseas forward who is interested in joining the club and further news on this development may be available next week.
It was good to see Matt Raven at training this week following his travels in South America. Matt enjoyed a good season last term and his durability will be important to the club as they look forward to improving on their top six finish. A key player who will be missing from the Brods line up starting the season will be Rob Jennings who like so many of his colleagues is taking his chance to go travelling and he will be setting off shortly to travel around Australia . Brods will miss Rob however wish him well and will look forward to his return in due course.

Brods enjoyed a thorough run out recently at the Halifax 7s under the stewardship of new second team coach and manager Ryan Harris. The club had entered the social competition however due to teams dropping out from the senior competition Brods stood up and progressed to the semi finals with some entertaining rugby .

Work on the clubhouse and grounds continues at a pace with the Biomass Heating boiler now fully installed and numerous interior works including french polishing and reupholstery taking place to maintain the high quality internal fittings that are in situ.

The club is having a call to all members for the weekend of the 22nd/23rd August when the Brods will hold their annual working weekend. Grass cutting , weed killing , litter picking and painting are just a few of the tasks to be undertaken to ensure that Woodhead Park will be spick and span for the new season.
