Music Festival hits all the right notes

Festival season kicked off in style last weekend as we welcomed 6000 people for our annual Brodstock musical extravaganza. Despite the cooler temperatures and a risk of rain, families and friends came ready to spend a full day soaking up the fun and festivities whilst raising thousands for charities, including the club.

Brodstock has become Calderdale’s biggest annual music event and one of Yorkshire’s biggest annual benefit concerts. At only £15 a ticket, and free for under 12s, festival-goers were treated to over 10 hours of entertainment which includes live performances from the very best local bands over two stages, dedicated activity areas for kids of all ages, charity stalls, street food vendors and bars.

From ticket sales alone Overgate received £10,000 with a further £5000 going towards supporting music in local schools and £2500 being donated to the Calder Valley MS Group. To push the day’s charitable impact further the Big Brodstock Community Raffle successfully raised a further £10,000 and local causes were in attendance running varied fundraising challenges from their stalls.

The feedback has been incredible with many commenting that it was the best festival yet.

The day’s organisation is speared by our members with a further c150 volunteers, the majority of whom are from the Brods, leading the way. Adding to the team are volunteers from the local area, from local businesses (like Lloyds and Standeven Flooring) and from local charities, such as Overgate, Music4MS, AndysManClub and Focus4Hope,

Brodstock has now raised a whopping £160,000 since it began in 2014, which includes £100,000 for Overgate Hospice and £25,000 for Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
