Old Brodleians Ladies Team – End of season report

The conclusion of the season marks the close of an important chapter for the Old Brods Ladies, a chapter that brought with it some valuable lessons, well-fought victories, and tough losses. As we reflect on our journey this season, tackling the challenges of a new league, what has shone through consistently is the resilience, growth, and unwavering commitment of our players.

The transition to NC2 North (East) put us in front of many formidable opponents who were clearly well-drilled and established in this league. These teams presented particularly challenging games for our ladies, who had spent their previous season dominating the league below with record-breaking point differences. While the results in some cases might not have gone our way, the spirit and resilience that our players have developed is invaluable and stand us in great stead moving into the 24/25 season.

Last year, we encountered a significant hurdle with the departure of several players and a change in captaincy. This period of transition tested our resolve and unity as a team. We rallied together and emerged a stronger side than we have ever been, showcasing a quality of rugby that was unrecognisable from our first few games of the season. Our focus now is recruitment to fill the gaps and nurturing the environment of support and camaraderie that has resulted.

Individually, each of our players has shown remarkable growth and development. By being thrown into the deep end of a higher-level of play, we have adapted, mastering new skills that will carry us forward stronger and more prepared to face another season at this level. Our focus now turns to the future, recognising the importance of a rigorous pre-season and strong recruitment drive to prepare us for the year ahead. With a renewed sense of determination and purpose, we are committed to putting in the work needed to compete fiercely with the opponents of NC2.

We would like to extend our gratitude to everyone who has supported us this season. Our home and travelling supporters, sponsors, partners and families, our fantastic physio, and of course our coaches, who have all played a part in creating the beautiful team environment that keeps our players coming back week on week. As captain, I send my heartfelt thanks to every member of our team for their dedication and commitment this season, and look forward to the challenges and undoubtable triumphs that await us in the next year. Great things are to come.

Sophie Burn
