Richard Spivey might have just reached the fine age of 72 but that's not stopping him from lacing up the boots this weekend for his old mate's memorial match.
This Saturday we mark the passing of club legend Richard "Bruce" Turner with a Brods v Brods match that kicks off at 1pm.
It's two years since we lost our former President, Chairman and Junior Chairman, and players past and present are turning out for another entertaining match in his memory.
Richard Spivey and Brucey go way back, back to them playing out as kids in Hipperholme. Since then they've been school buddies, team mates, coached together and cheered on their beloved Halifax from the Thrum Hall terraces.
Richard may well be the eldest to turn out on Saturday but he's looking forward to a return on the hallowed Hipperholme turf and sees no better reason for one more run out.
For anyone else interested in playing, please arrive at 12 noon with your boots.
Post match presentation
Following the match we'll also be presenting "The Brucey" to a real stalwart of the club. The Richard Turner Shield is a relatively new award, acknowledging those that have many excellent decades of service to the Brods - just like Bruce had. Last year the first ever recipients of the shield were Harold and Margaret Smith. This year we'll be recognising the efforts and long service of another great Brodleian.
