Brods headed across the border to Lancashire with plenty of support for this top of the table clash with both teams unbeaten so far this season. The men from Woodhead took the lead with a Josh Kelly penalty after 15 minutes after defending well under pressure from the very pacy home side. Then great movement put Ben Barron over in the corner for Brods to make it 0-8 after twenty five minutes. Then Rochdale fought back with great speed for Cliff Howard to make it 5-8. Play was up and down with both sides trying to get on top. From a hotly contested scrum a player from each side was yellow carded. From the penalty a lineout was well executed by the home side and centre Matt Johnston crossed wide out, Collins converted and so at half time Rochdale were leading 12-8.
A penalty shortly after the restart made it 15-8. The home side were running hard and broke through again for another converted try from James O'Connell making it 22-8. However the men from Yorkshire were never giving up and Dom Georgiou showed great skill to force himself over in the corner for a try. Rochdale hit back with another penalty making it 25-13. More pressure and good scrummaging put Brods on the attack for George Gillgrass to score in the corner making it 25-18. Rochdale never lost their energy and more fine handling brought another converted try scored by Howard to make it 32-18. Things were getting feisty at scrum time and players from each side went to the bin. Rochdale were well in control in the closing minutes and Hesketh scored another converted try to make the final score 39-18 and put Rochdale on top of the league.
