The Brods 2nd XV travelled the short distance to neighbours Cleckheaton, with a revised squad after a few late withdrawals for their first fixture of the season. The early exchanges were even with Brods taking an early lead from a Zak Thomson penalty. Cleck soon levelled the score with a penalty of their own.
The forward dominated Brods squad took the game to Cleck with big carries from Pete Williams, Ryan Harris and Elliott Hoyle and earned another penalty which Thomson dispatched, Cleck then had a purple patch with a lot of possession, working the ball wide to their speedy back line which resulted in 4 converted tries leaving the Brods 29-6 down at half time.
The second half began with some early pressure from the Brods pack, excellent rolling mauls and strong carries were rewarded when Thomson barrelled over from close range. Cleck replied with a converted try of their own after a lengthy period of concerted pressure on the Brods line.
Spurred on by skipper Ryan Harris the Brods gained more territory and another converted try, very similar to his first was scored, 34-20.
Cleck were made to work lot harder in the second half and they emptied their considerable bench, and with Brods players now tiring, Cleck scored a late try to wrap the game up, final score 43-20.
Every player in the squad gave everything they had and their were a lot of positives taken from the game. It could have been a lot closer had breaks by Pete Williams, James Dodd and Elliott Hoyle been capitalised on. The squad will now look forward to a big derby game against Heath next Saturday (12.45pm kick off at home).
