Old Brods U17’s lost their opening league game of the season going down 12-0 at home to Sheffield.
Playing down the slope in the first half ,the physically larger Sheffield pack took full advantage of the conditions totally dominating at the scrum and lineout and making Brods play deep inside their own 22.It came as no surprise when after 20 mins Sheffied scored out on the right wing for an unconverted try and a 5-0 lead.
Sheffield continued to dominate but fortunately for the Old Brods their passing game left much to be desired, They failed to capitalise on the possession and territory gained and when they did look like scoring Brods fullback, Butler, was always on hand to clear the danger.
Brods nevertheless began to fight back, Blind side flanker Zac Ward began to make some headway from the back of the scrum and Brods started to throw the ball around with the back line of Dixon, Nasir and Vine and Wood all finding space although never quite making the decisive break.
Sheffield were unable to add to their score and Brods came off the pitch at half time satisfied with the one score which separated the two sides.
With the Sheffield forwards physically wilting at the end of the fist half, the signs looked encouraging for Brods who were expected to dictate play in the second half. Unfortunately this never happened as their attack simply could not break through the oppositions defence
Sheffield continue to frustrate and in the last 20 minutes of the game they scored the decisive try, sucking in the Brods defence on the right side of play before quickly switching the ball across to the left wing to touch down under the posts and take the points.
