Old Brods u17’s coach Gary Wilson warned his players that they needed to be fully focused from the start of the game when they travelled away to the league leaders Doncaster .Unfortunately the players failed to follow his instructions and allowed the opposition forwards to drive down the field for an early unchallenged try in a game which Doncaster eventually won 30-24.
Doncaster had the larger pack and completely dominated in the scrum and the rucks .With so little ball to work with, it was to Brods credit that they managed to compete with the opposition for the full 80 minutes.
After Doncaster’s opening try Brods were pinned back deep inside their own 22metres until winger Charlie Wood broke through on the right wing taking the ball deep inside the Doncaster half before passing to centre Chris Vine who wrong footed the defending fullback to touch down under the post for a try converted by Jack DD Martin and a 7-5 lead.
Doncaster fought back and were unlucky not to score when they were held up over the line before driving over for their second try quickly followed by an almost identical third and a 7-15 lead. Martin however brought Brods back into the game with a penalty making the score 10-15 at the break.
In the second half Brods found themselves playing into a gale force wind which favoured the home team .Brods struggled to get out of their own half and when they did Doncaster launched a long kick sending them back down into their own 22.Doncaster scored two further unconverted tries before Brods rallied again firstly through man of the match Perry Wilson battering his way through from 5 metres out and then by Louie Butler touching down a Chris Vine kick through in the closing minutes of the game .Both tries comfortably converted by Martin
