Old Brods U17's played the league leaders Guisborough and were defeated yet again by the narrowest of margins, this time loosing 5-0 at home following a second half unconverted try for the visitors.
Brods started the game playing down the slope and needed to make full use of this slight advantage on a very wet and blustery day. They did have most of the ball in the first half but unfortunately could not ship it out to their backs as the Guisborough defence was very good at shutting down the home sides playmakers which meant that the game was principally a forwards battle which Brods eventually lost .The home side did nevertheless have a number of opportunities to put points on the board ,particularly through the boot of Jack DD Martin ,who was unlucky not to put over at least one of his two penalty attempts in the opening 20 minutes. Brods did in fact manage to cross over the try line twice in the first half but neither try was given, Perry Wilson crossed over firstly, following a great break down the wing by Charlie Wood and Chris Vine but the referee judged that the ball had been touched down behind the dead ball line Flanker Zac Ward was also unlucky to be held up over the line when perhaps he should have passed the ball out to James Greenwood on his wing.
Playing up the slope in the second half was always going to be difficult against the larger Guisborough pack but Brods defended well deep inside their own 10 metre line, and twice held up the visitors forwards preventing the score.before Guisborough finally forced their way over for the winning try.
Brods best chance of the half fell to Vine who broke from deep inside his own half but on the soft ground running up the slope he was just caught short of the line by the Guisborough fullback.
