Much changed Brods win in the mud

Brods 17s travelled to Barnsley at short notice with a squad of 16 players, with 2 players stepping up to play for the colts and a further 7 unavailable.
The much changed line up, with Perry Wilson moving from hooker to centre, Will Ginns from the wing to play his first game at scrum half and Ollie Lee moving back to stand off, started brightly with the forwards making yards up the middle of the field, George Ashton and Richard Stokes prominent.
The good work paid off eventually with Liam Johnstone plonking the ball over the line, after he found it in mud, for his first try of the season. Will Ginns then scored his 1st try of the season after great off loading from the forwards brought play right up to the try line, Will flopping over and celebrated with a very dodgy leap into the air. The 1st half scoring was rounded of when Greg Robertson dived on a loose ball of the back of a lineout, making it 15-0 at half time.
In the second half the forwards and backs were interlinking well, making good yards, sometimes just over playing. A good forward drive by Richard Gregson, backed by Dom Cooper, brought a penalty that was kicked into the corner and the pack drove over from 5 meters, James Brambles touching down.
Barnsley started to get back into the game after this, with only some great defence from Louie Butler and Charlie Wood keeping the Brods line intact. Perry Wilson showed what a great all round player he is (nothing like his dad!) with a brilliant 50 meter clearance kick that again put the Brods on the front foot, Jonathan Foster making it count going over first from close range and then from 30 meters out after ripping the ball out of the tackle and storming down the wing, going in under the posts, Louie Butler finally converting, making the final score 32-0.
This was a good performance from a much changed side and is a good boost for the squad ahead of next week’s tough away league fixture against Sheffield.
