The Woodhead boys traveled to Abbeydale anticipating a tough physical encounter against the larger Sheffield pack. In what proved to be a thriller of a game, it was Brods' superior fitness that played a big part in the victory.

The opening ten minutes was all Sheffield. Using their front five to make valuable ground into the Brods 22, they scored a try and converted as Brods were switched off. Brods had to step up their game if they were going to get the 'W' at the final whistle.

After an infringement, DD Martin slotted an easy penalty to get the Brods on the scoreboard. In a copy book scenario captain Jack Martin elected to run it rather than take the easy 3 points on offer, knocking on in the process.
Just before half time second rower Liam Johnstone went over in the corner, only for the Referee to harshly call a knock on (don't worry Liam we all know you really scored).

After the restart, DD kicked another penalty to make it 7-6 to the hosts. Brods now started to look like playing some free flowing rugby and a fine handling display saw Charlie Wood cross over for a try in the corner. DD missed the difficult conversion.

As the second half progressed, the much larger Sheffield pack tired and gaps were appearing everywhere. Richard Gregson was introduced at hooker, with Perry Wilson moving into the back row to try and exploit his block busting running.
Gregson turned 5 scrums against the head and Richard Stokes stealing crucial line out ball, to provide some excellent turnover ball in key areas of the field.

The next try for Brods was produced by some majestic handling interchanging between forwards and backs alike, Chris Vine winning the foot race to the line and DD converting.
In the last 10 minutes Brods looked composed and in control of the game constantly stretching the Sheffield defense.

After both teams turned ball over, another attacking move down the right flank saw Louie Butler cross the line untouched from the half way line for an unconverted try.
With the score at 23-7 and only a couple of minutes to go, Butler had a late scare when he had a kick charged down by the opposing left winger (who had been a big threat all game). Brods managed to scamper back and see off the final play of the game.

GET IN!

Man of the match- Louie Butler, a rock in defense and a magician in attack. Since arriving at Brods at the start of the season, Louie has made the Full Back position his own improving with every game he plays.

Big Hitter- Zak Ward, made a crater where he dumped an opposing player (enough said)!

Dick of the day- James Brambles, again enough said!
