Brods 17s push to the end

Old Brods U17's lost 10-0 away to league leaders Guisborough .On a heavy pitch the home team, with their reliance on forward play, were always going to have the advantage and the 2 tries they scored were both push over tries by their forwards. Nevertheless the game was far from one sided and when the Brods forwards did win some ball the team showed glimpses of the running rugby they are be capable of producing and which would surely have been enough to have beaten Guisborough had they played them earlier on in the season on a dry pitch .

Guisborough scored their second and decisive try at the end of the game but prior to that either team could have won the game and Brods did have a number of chances of their own. In the first half the best chance fell to centre Chris Vine who dodged his way through a number of defenders only to be caught just short of the line then in the second half, man of the match flanker Liam Johnson, was quick of the mark as he chased through a short kick out of defence causing the Guisborough defender to loose the ball under pressure .The ball was then taken up field, firstly by Vine and then winger Charlie Wood who was unfortunately tackled within a meter of the line.

On a positive note the Guisborough coach acknowledged that they had only won because of the physical size of their pack and in the final act of the day Liam did reap some revenge by beating the home side’s man of the match in the pint downing contest.
