a hard fought battle with brods edging it in the contact.

Old bords u17 – 35 v 12—Hull Ionions u17.
This being the second round of the Yorkshire cup away at hull, brods knew they would have to put in the complete performance to come away with the spoils. The game got under way with a mistake by brods straight from the ko, allowing hull to move straight in for the attack. Luckily brods kept them out with some great tackles by adam roebuck and Isaac cracknel. Once brods got into their game plan they showed real class but hulls defence was kept strong and brods had to work hard for cracknel to get the first points on the board, chris bell adding the extras. 0-7. From the restart brods where having a bit of a nightmare and again they failed to catch the ball giving hull the advantage. Now with a sniff of a try hull went on the attack and eventually through some poor tackling went in to bring the score to 5-7.
Brods where having none of this and started to wake up. With the forwards led by brodie Wilson and matty smith where making plenty of yards downfield allowing bell to get the ball out to chester butler and greg roper to put some plays together. It was not long before butler broke the line and scored with bell adding the extras, 5-14.
After half time and a quick chat brods started to show their dominance, the forwards where winning the scrums and with sam Jeffrey running things at nine brods where hard to stop now. Cracknel took a pass close to the line and went in for a great power score, bell kicking taking score to 5-21. Now with a bit of breathing space brods found some extra wind and with ollis firth and Cameron wroot taking the ball in to contact and bell getting the ball to winger ben armitage who went in for the next score again con kicked, 5-28. At this point hull where far from dead and buried, with a wayward pass from brods the hull centre collected and went the full length to score bringing the brods party to a halt. 12-28.
With still ten minutes left brods had to work hard to keep hull out and eventually were rewarded when brodie Wilson received the ball in no mans land and stolled over to wrap things up at 12-35 to brods and on to meet Huddersfield in the quarter finals of the cup.
A tough game for the boys but with so much class on the field brods where only happy with the win. They will have to step things up in the next round but with some returning players there should be a lot more strength in depth.
