Old Brods U17’s made it 3 wins in a row when they travelled away to Harrogate to beat The Army Foundation College 25-0.
As expected the Army fielded a strong, powerful and fit team which Brods found difficult to break down and it was only in the second half that the superior skills of the Brods team began to play dividends. Brods only points in the first half came courtesy of a Jack DD Martin penalty conversion although tremendous cover defence by the home team had prevented at least 3 tries from being scored in the corner by Conor Martin and Adam Dixon.
Through out the game Brods more than managed to hold their own in the scrums and the two players who played hooker, Perry Wilson and Richard Gregson on numerous occasions won the ball against the head whilst in the line outs Richard Stokes was outstanding. This made sure that the Under17’s had their fair share of the ball and gradually they were able to turn possession and territory into points .
As the home teams defence began to falter Brods were able to play the open game of rugby in which they excel running in 4 second half tries. The first scored by powerful front row and Yorkshire U 17 player Dom Cooper who crashed under the posts after Brods had built up the phases and pinned the Army down deep inside their own 10 metres. Coopers strong running then helped to draw in the defence and enabled Brods to ship the ball out wide for Conor Martin to score out on the wing and put Brods into a 13-0 lead.
Coopers fellow county players Wilson and Jonathan Foster both made a number of great breaks from tight play and one such break by Foster from the scrum eventually led to the final try of the game for centre Aamir Nasir .
Second row forward Liam Johnson had scored Brods third and Jack DD Martin added to the score with a conversion.
