Brods u17—17v12—Pocklington u17
Brods started their Yorkshire cup run with an away draw against Yorkshire div 2 leaders Pocklington. As always with this team brods knew they had to be at their best to win. The 1st half started brightly for brods with some good play from ko and already threatening the pock line. Some strong forwards play saw Cole Wilson go over under the posts for the first score, Tom Wilson adding the extras, 0-7.With the brods spirits high they got straight back into the pock 22 from ko. With forwards and backs working well things looked good, Tom Wilson was next on the score sheet and brods had the game well under control. Myles Watson and Peter Ashton driving in good yards and great support by James Millington and Elliot Craven, brods were off to an easy win. Scrum half Sam Burford Eyre in for the next score taking it to 0-17 and half time whistle blown.
If only pocklington had read the script things would have gone to plan. Second half was all pock with brods error count mounting, giving the home side easy yards, they scored the next try. Brods just could not settle and had to defend their line for what seemed like an eternity; eventually pock went over again and kicked the extras taking the score to 12-17 and five minutes left. This lifted the home side and they threw everything at the unhinged brods team. After a last gasp attempt brods took the ball into touch and the ref blew for full time, brods winning 12-17.
Brods have to hold their hands up and accept they did not come out at half time, but with credit given to pock, even after they threw the kitchen sink at the brods they held firm and defence won the game in the end. On to the next round of the Yorkshire cup.
