Old Brods U17’s travelled to Wharfedale for the second round of the Yorkshire cup.
The first half kicked off with Brods on the attack, despite a scrappy game , Brods kept their composure and eventually this paid off with the first try by Brods James Millington.Penalty decisions against Brods allowed Wharfedale to keep Brods pinned in their own half for some time.Despite this , Brods stout defence kept them from scoring , ending the first half 0-5 in Brods favour.
The second half of play started better with Brods gaining some ground and a penalty kick in brods favour allowed the boot of Tom Wilson to add 3 points, taking the score 0-8.However, Wharfedale didn’t give up and again frequent penalties against Brods allowed them to make ground and score under the sticks, taking them within one point of Brods 7-8.This was quickly followed by a drop goal on unsuspecting Brods taking Wharfedale into the lead 10-8.
This seemed to spur Brods into another gear and they finally found their momentum, pressuring wharfedales line with a great resulting try in the corner by forward Oscar Mathers 10-13. Brods forwards worked relentlessly and secured the ball to allow the backs to pass it down the line for a next successful try again in the corner, by winger Alex Snowball .Brods were now in the lead 10-18 and despite Wharfedales best efforts, kept them in their own half until the final whistle.
Brods now through to the quarter finals. This was a big test for the team before their visit to Stoke on Trent next week for the National Northern Divisional final of the Plate.
