Old Brodleians U17’s 24 v 7 York RUFC U17’s
Old Brods were prepared to battle back to their winning ways after last weeks defeat at Sheffield .They kicked off on the downhill after losing the choice and were keen to put points on the board before the second half uphill .
York were intent to keep them out, but some great strength in the forwards gained Brods ground into Yorks half and despite their efforts , a quick pass of the ball on the inside to Sam Burford Ayre allowed him to score under the posts, Tom Wilson adding the extras. This lifted Brods and they kept their pace and momentum throughout the first half with great support play shown by the whole team at the breakdown and allowed the ball to be recycled to the backs. Strength of pace next being shown by no8 James Millington, Wilson again converting 14-0.York showed skill in their efforts to defend against Brods and tackled well but Brods remained on the front foot, keeping ball in hand, as Millington scored his second try 19-0.Some poor passing and dropped ball allowed York to stay in the game and Brods missed out additional tries through their errors.
However they kept their game plan and through team effort pushed forward ,getting the ball out to Connor Pollard for a great final try of the first half 24-0.
York came out fighting for the second half on the downhill and Brods composure faltered as York took their advantage for a deserved try under the posts 24-7.Brods knew then they had to maintain their defensive line as York were more than capable of scoring tries. Brods attacked back and kept York in their own half for good periods of time, but knock ons and penalties against them kept York in the running. However, Brods held together as a unit, played their game and ended the second half 24-7, the victors. Great displays from both forwards and backs, to end the game on a positive ahead of next weeks game.
