Brods beat Sheffield to stay on target for league champions

Old Brodleians RUFC U17’s 14-11 Sheffield RUF C U17’s
Brods knew it was going to be a big ask of them today after their last encounter with Sheffield ending in a big defeat and not having played a game since mid December. However from the start of the game they came out with determination and a will not to give up until the final whistle.
Brods played simple controlled rugby, defended as a team and took their chances when they were able. They started the first half on the uphill and Sheffield attacked from the off, making ground and gaining a penalty kick within the first ten minutes of play taking them onto the score board 0-3.Brods rattled by this allowed Sheffield over the line for a try shortly after 0-8. Team talk between the Brods players and they got back to the game in hand with great play between Brods forwards and backs controlling the uphill chase that saw second row Josh Forrest finally cross the line, Tom Wilson adding the conversion 7-8.This seemed to lift Brods back into the game and they fought hard to keep Sheffield from scoring a further try but conceded 3 points on a further penalty against them, taking half time score to 7-11.
The second half was all to play for and Brods wanted the win, attacking Sheffield with all they had and making great ground with strength and pace in forwards and backs alike. Sheffield never gave up their defence as Brods camped on their try line, held up twice, until a bruising dash by Ollie Anderson saw him score the next try, Wilson adding the extras to take Brods into the lead, 14-11.Sheffield tried hard to break Brods defence and Brods kept up their attack, both teams showing skill and team effort until the final whistle blew and Brods claimed their much fought victory against a worthy opponent.
That consolidates Brods in second spot for Yorkshire League One, with 2 games to go , a real chance of winning the league.
