A game that Brods allowed to slip away from them

Wharfedale U17s—15 v 7---Brods U17s
This was the big game for both teams in yorkshire div 1 and it was to be wharfedale who took the spoils. Brods started well with strong forwards play up into dales half and stayed there for a good 10 mins with the backs attacking with great flair, unfortunately dale were up for the challenge and held the brods players out. After some missed tackles wharfedale took the ball into the brods 10 metres and attacked with their forwards. Brods held on but with the pressure telling and players not used to this kind of pressure, dale walked over the line for a good score, con kicked 7-0. Again brods took the ball up field and applied real pressure only for errors to gift the ball back to dale. Some good drives in midfield by the dale centre allowed them another score to go into half time 12-0 up on brods.
The second half started much the same as the first but brods were starting to get their forwards working in the right areas. After a couple of phases brods shipped the ball out wide and a storming run from Chester Butler passed the ball to Peter Walker and out to Tyler Nicholson to score out wide, Chris Bell kicking the con 12-7. The game was now on and brods were putting things together better, it was at this point tempers from this intense game started to show, after some shirt tugging and pushing and shoving ,the game tried to continue but with every breakdown becoming a tense area the brods were losing their focus and time in the game. Wharfedale were awarded a penalty and that took the game to 15-7 whch left brods a mountain to climb. Although they tried hard with the stop start of the game things never really got going and the final whistle blew with brods feeling very frustrated at the final score, 15-7.
A few lessons for the brods lads to take away from this game and on reflection they will be regretting getting involved in a tussle and not focusing on the game.
A great performance from wharfedale who wanted this game and who are now the only team in the division unbeaten. It’s a long season and things change from week to week and brods will be looking forward to the return fixture soon.
