Old Brods U17----29 v 0---- Doncaster u17
Brods returned to league action this week after a lengthy lay off due to weather and other things. They faced a tough Doncaster side away and knew they would have to put in the complete performance in order to win the game.
The game got under way as expected with Donny throwing everything at the brods only for brods to show their defence was in top form and after some close calls neart the line brods cleared and started to take control of the game. Some hard work from the forwards issac cracknel and Harley morris allowed the backs to get their attacks away. It was only the high error count that was stopping the brods from getting on the score sheet. The game was starting to get tense when chris bell went against the run of play and broke several defenders to score in the corner for the first try. 5-0. Bell missed con. This was the only score of the first half and even though brods were in front Donny were pushing everywhere on the field.
The second half started with a more confident brods team and within 5 mins of restart chester butler went over from a well worked move leaving him to under the posts, bell adding the extras 12-0. Brods back line was now beginning to work and with ben armitage and jasper ayreton just missing out it was greg roper next on the sheet 17-0. With the introduction of ben sumner and felix robbins brods never lost the momentum. Brods scrum and lineout was outstanding and set good platform for bell to score his second, adding his own extras,24-0. With a good 10 mins left Donny threw everything they had at brods but against the run of play ayreton went over for the last score to make the final score 29-0 to brods.
A superb game by both teams but brods edged it in the end. Some great perfomances by Bradley martin and joel tippy but M.O.M went to bell.
A big thanks to Doncaster who really put in a great first half, possibly the hardest first half brods has come against.
