Brods u17 do the double over Harrogate in the league.

This week brods u17 travelled to Harrogate in their penultimate Yorkshire league div 1 game, and with the title still in sight they came away with a hard fought win. With no less than 7 regulars missing due to district, north div games and injuries, they knew they had to put in the work to win this one. Brods back line was a complete new set of players and with greg roper playing 10 for his first time.
The game started well and brods were on the score sheet after 5 mins with captain for the day issac cracknel scoring a great props try. 5-0 roper missing con. Gate came straight back at the brods and were putting some neat plays together making the backs consisting of sam Jeffrey and jasper ayreton making some great tackles. After some determined pressure gate were awarded a penalty which they took taking the score to 5-3. Brods where quick to reply and with the forwards marshalled by ben sumner worked their way up field resulting in second row felix robbins scoring the next try. With roper adding the extras 12-3. Gate were in no mood to give up and immediately took the ball up to the brods line, but determined defence from Harley morris and steve scott the ball was held up a number of times until eventually roper cleared. Brods then settled into some neat play working the ball into midfield to set up ayreton for a great try 17-3. With brods starting to see daylight they stepped off the gas abnd allowed gate to go over bringing them right back into the game 17-10.
At half time and a couple of changes brods where starting to show some class with roper settling into the 10 role and going over himself under the posts, con kicked, 24-10. Harrogate were not giving in however and put some phases of their own together scoring another try to take the score to 24-15. At this point brods fitness come to the fore and with about ten minutes left stepped up a gear with crcknell and ben sumner scoring taking the game to 34-15 and out of reach from gate.
The final whistle blew and the win was brods, but with Harrogate pressing brods from the start it was a very tough game to take. Credit to the brods who were playing out of position but more to Harrogate who really tested the brods 17s.
