Old Brods U17---23 v 7—wharfedale u17.
After waiting almost an eternity for this game to happen brods showed real determination to pull off the win to give them the Yorkshire div 1 title and the Yorkshire cup in one season.
Brods started strong even with some key players missing, their intent was there from the beginning and only stout defence from dale kept the scoreboard clean. Eventually after hitting the try line for what seemed like the whole first half brods were awarded a penalty, chris bell stepped up and slotted it straight over after missing two earlier opportunities. The game was otherwise very tense with outstanding defence from both teams. Brods found it difficult to break down the wharfedale team but as the game went on it seemed apparent that something would give as long as brods kept their focus. Half time seemed to be up very quick and with the score only 3-0 to brods it was all to play for.
The second half got under way much like the first but with brods forwards showing their fitness things were looking good. A great forwards drive downfield saw the ball pushed out to the centre and chester butler coming in on the short ball to score. With bell adding a penalty a few minutes later and brodie Wilson adding another trade mark try, brods seemed to have a bit of breathing space, dale where having none of this and after a few moments of indiscipline brods found themselves in their own half and a try scored. Score now 16-7 and game on. A bit of swapping with the players and some fresh legs coming on brods soon got control again and with matt smith scoring, and as bell had been sin binned for a high tackle greg roper stepping up to add the extras, this seemed to see off the wharfedale boys. Final score 23-7 with brods righting their wrongs from the earlier encounter in the season away at wharfedale, the balance was restored and brods finished off their last game as u17 as league div 1 champions, Yorkshire cup winners, belguim international festival winners and into the last 8 of the national cup only losing out to warrington who went on to the final. Its been a great end for them and they will be looking forward to the senior colts next season and hopefully be just as succesfull.
